Be sure to check out the flavors page here and on Facebook, www.facebook.com/katzkupcakes.com If you visit my facebook page be sure to click on the "like" button. Katz Kupcakes is officially open at my residence. Now for all of you who are worried about licensing and what not I have done my research. I can sell my cupcakes from my home, at farmers markets, craft fairs and wholesale without a license. Ohio is one of the few states that is considered a cottage industry state, which s what allows me to do this from my home. Now if I were to want to sell across the state line at a market or fair I would need a license. Or if I were to sell cheese cakes, fjilled cupcakes or donuts or tomato based products like salsa and sauces I would need licensing. With that said on to business. My store front in my home is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Flavors will be different every day and the cost is $1.75 a cupcake from the home business because you will be picking up the cupcake. Cupcakes at events or to be delivered will be $2.50 a cupcake and will recieve a discount if more than two dozen are orded. For wedding orders or graduation orders cupcakes will also be $2.50 a cupcake and I will deliver within a 60 mile radius and set them up for no additional cost. Outside of the 60 mile radius there will be a deliver/set-up fee determined by the distance and the amount of cupcakes ordered. Orders over 100 cupcakes will recieve a discount of 15%. New flavors are being rotated into the line-up all the time as I get tired of baking the same thing. Latest additions are Lemon Honey with Honey Buttercream, Coca-Cola, and a Pear, Wine, Blue Cheese and Walnut cupcake. Always something interesting in the works. Stop by some
Last week my family and I went on a winter vacation to lovely Williamsburg, VA. While we were there we took in many tourist attractions and sites. I also made it my business to check out a local cupcakery. Extraordinary Cupcakes Their cupcakes were average, regular size and the flavors were pretty standard. What I found interesting was people were willing to pay $3 a cupcake there for standard flavors and average cupcakes. Made me laugh, because here in good ole’ East Liverpool, OH I hear people complain about the meager $1.75 I charge for a cupcake. All I can say is WOW! East Liverpool doesn’t know how good they have it getting a Gourmet cupcake baked by the National Association of Business Women for $1.75. Anyhow while in Williamsburg I sampled some coconut curry cashews. When I was eating them it dawned on me that this would make an awesome cupcake flavor, so today I tested the recipe, and all I can say is AMAZING. The Coconut Curry Cashew Cupcake is my winter flavor along with a Butternut Squash cupcake with Sage infused Cream Cheese Frosting (think zucchini bread). I am also going to make my Margarita cupcake my signature cupcake. I want to also let people know that in the spring new and great things will be happening with Katz Kupcakes so stay tuned.
The Christmas cookie madness has begun. I baked from 8:00 am - 10:00 pm yesterday. I baked 14 dozen cookies, all different types and four dozen buckeyes. I delivered an order this morning and mailed out another one today. Have 7 dozen to bake tonight for a cookie exchange. Then I have two dozen assorted cupcakes to make for a family function this week and a cookie tray to assemble for same said event. Next week I have to make 5 dozen buckeyes and three different kinds of cookies for two more orders. I am tired just thinking about it. Idon't have any major events until mid January so will be glad for the break. Hope everyone has a Blessed Christmas and a Joyous New Year.
Well after a busy weekend with the youth group kids at national conferenece I am resting for a day or two before the holiday baking madness begins. I have a Thanksgiving cupcake order I will be working on Tuesday. Then I have an event in Somerest Ohio at the Consignment Boutique as part of Christmas on the Square. I will have cupcakes and cookies there to purchase. Then the second week of December I have a cupcake order and two orders of Christmas cookies (a total of 14 dozen). I also have another 10 dozen order for Christmas week. I am pleased with the amount of people ordering large cookie orders. If you want to order cookies please do not wait till the last minute. I hope everyone has an enjoyable Thanksgiving and that you will keep me in mind for all your holiday baking needs.
I have survived my first two major events. First was the Home Party Extravaganza at the YMCA last week on Tuesday evening. I sold cupcakes and advertised my business. I am hoping to actually get some orders from a couple of the people who stopped by my table. They both have special dietary requirements and I told them I would be more than happy to provide what they needed. The second event was at St. Aloysous School and was the church's fundraiser, Fall Festival. There were 66 vendors there and another cupcake lady. Her cupcakes were decorated more elaborately than mine and were more expensive. I had more flavors to choose from including the Cinnamon Swirl with Maple Bacon frosting. Made $100 and again promises of future orders. Now I just have to wait for those special orders to come through. I have another craft fair this weekend and think I am going to put a sign up sheet for those who would want to order in the future so I have contact info. See if that helps me any. All and all not a bad weekend, but feel it is the ordering of cupcakes that will make my business unless I open up an actual store. Have had several people ask me if I would open a bakery. Interesting thought, but I do not have the capital to even think about that at this time. Will keep it in the back of my mind for the future. Also not sure I want to be tied down to this area of the country. Time will tell. If you are out and about this weekend in East Liverpool please stop by the YMCA in Calcutta on Saturday from 9-5 pm to get your Katz Kupcake.
This past Saturday I had a table set up at Tractor Supply and was giving away free samples of my cupcakes. Event went well, but found it was hard to give away cupcakes. I had six different flavors to offer. The big hits of the day were Pumpkin with Carmel Frosting and Candy Bar with Salted Carmel Frosting. The traditional flavor of Vanilla with Chocolate Frosting was also well recieved. I took two orders, one is being delivered today, and one is for early December. I also offered to donate cupcakes for some local fundraising events. I am donating a dozen Banana cupcakes with Peanut Butter Frosting to an event at Cashland this friday. I believe they are having a raffle of some sort. I will also be donating another dozen to them for October 3rd for the second raffle they will be holding. Thinking of doing the Pumpkin with Carmel Frosting. Things are starting to pick up. I have two orders for the second weekend in October then I am selling cupcakes at St. Al's School Fall Festival on Oct 16 from noon - 5 pm and then again on Oct 22 at a craft fair at the YMCA in Calcuta. Cupcakes at these events will be regular size and offered as single purchases. I will have 4-6 flavors to choose from so hope you come out and purchase a yummy treat for yourself.
Today I delivered two and a half dozen cupcakes to a birthday party which we (Jack and I) were invited to. Cupcakes were displayed in a large Tonka dumptruck and others were displayed in a barnyard scene. Flavors were Vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting, Chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting, and Orange cupcakes with a citrus frosting. When we left the party there were two of the ten Orange cupcakes left and about half a dozen of the other two combined. All were a big hit but the favorite seemed to be the orange ones. Hope everyone enjoyed them and hope to get some future orders. I know the person who ordered will order again for the next child's birthday.
This weekend my first two orders will be made and delivered, and they are both custom orders. Tomorrow afternoon an order for half a dozen chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting will be delivered. Customer is a purist and asked if I could just do a simple traditional cupcake. I laughed and told him sure thing. I am sure he will enjoy them. I made a test batch earlier in the week and they were amazing. Double dark chocolate, yummy! Second order is for a birthday party. The theme is Tonka trucks. Since we were also invited to party the gift is a huge Tonka truck with the cupcakes displayed in it. Order is for 10 chocolate,10 vanilla and ten orange with citrus frosting. I am going to put vanilia frosting on the chocolate ones and "dirt" sprinkles. The vanilla ones will have chocolate frosting with "rock" sprinkles. Some of the cupcakes will have homemade cupcake picks which I had to create because I couldn't find any. Lastly the orange cupcakes will have the citrus cream frosting but will have yellow sugar crystals on them I think it will be a big hit. I also hope it generates some more business for me. Have another order for late October and possibly another order for mid to late September. Hoping this goes well and I get more orders. Pass along my webpage and contact info to your friends and family. Thanks a miliion!
The word is simply Yummy! I made the Green Tea cupcakes with Honey frosting and the Lemon with Lavender frosting on Friday. I was skeptical about the green tea cakes but they were very good. I am not a fan of lemon flavored anything but the lemon cakes with the lavender frosting were amazing. Now for a list of people and their favorites:
My daughter Hannah's favorites are Cinnamon Swirl with Maple Bacon Frosting and the Chocolate Chai with the Swiss Meringue Honey Butter cream
My Mom's favorites are the Chocolate Chai with the Swiss Meringue Honey Butter cream and the Green Tea with the Honey Fluff
My husband hasn't had any of them except for the Cinnamon Swirl with the Maple Bacon Frosting so naturally they are his favorite.
My Favorite in the order listed here are my favorite, Cinnamon Swirl with Maple Bacon Frosting, Chocolate Chai with the Swiss Meringue Honey Butter cream, Banana with Peanut Butter Frosting, Green Tea with Honey Fluff, Lemon Cupcake with Lavender Frosting, Orange Cupcake with Citrus Frosting, Vanilla Chai with Chocolate Cinnamon Ganache and last the Vanilla Cupcakes with Cookies and Cream Frosting.
If you have tasted any of my cupcakes please comment and leave which one is your favorite. Thanks!
